Abstract
Unfortunately, today multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria are very common in communities and could be a serious threat to human health. Consequently, bacterial populations contain new mechanism of survival strategy in hostile environments or antibiotic exposure. One of the most important mechanisms is persister cell formation in bacteria. Persister cell can be one of the important causes of chronic infections. Also, there are many challenges for combating persister cell. The discovery of new drugs and appropriate therapies in this area is very necessary. So, the purpose of the present research was discovery of an anti-persister drug against Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates. For this purpose, thirty P. aeruginosa clinical isolates were used for more analysis. Antibiotic susceptibility test and persister cell assay were performed. Finally, Peganum harmala was investigate as a likely source of an anti-persister cell drug. The finding demonstrated that concentration of 35ug/ml completely has the anti-persister properties. So, it can be herbal candidate against persister cells but further analysis including in vivo study and finding the main component should be done to commercial this herb as new anti-persister drug.
