Altered expression levels of PPARα, PPARγ, PPARδ, SOX2, NANOG and OCT4 genes in gastric cancer and correlation with clinicopathologic characteristics
Clinicopathologic characteristics of the patients under study are depicted in Tables 1 and 2. In the cohort study, 100 patients with gastric cancer (age ranged 40–86 years) were included who were follow‑upped for a period of 4 years (range, 11‑48 months). At first, the relative expression level (declared as fold change) of PPARα, PPARγ, PPARδ, SOX2, NANOG and OCT4 genes in the tumor tissues was compared with those in the adjacent normal tissues. Then, the correlations between the relative expression levels of these genes in the tumor tissues and the clinicopathologic characteristics of the patients were assessed. It was observed that these genes are significantly overexpressed in the tumor tissues relative to the adjacent normal tissues (P<0.05, Figures 1 and 2). Furthermore, increased expression levels of the mentioned genes (except PPARγ) in the tumor tissues of the patients was found to be associated with advanced tumor TNM stage, grade, tumor size (Table 3). However, for age and gender, metastasis, lymphatic and vascular invasion the correlations were not found to be significant.
