Context: Varicose veins are common problems that change the quality of life. EVLA has been introduced as a noninvasive treatment for varicose veins. The current systematic review and meta-analysis conducted to assess the efficacy of EVLA in treatment of varicose veins.
Method: Using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines and MeSH keywords search conducted in data bases of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, Embase, Springer, CINAHL, Wiley Online Library, Cochrane Library, EBSCO and Google scholar search engine and the reference list of the retrieved papers until April,2019. Heterogeneity among studies was assessed using Cochran's Q test and I2 index and random effects model was used to estimate Odds Ratio(OR). Data were analyzed using Comprehensive SPSS21 software.
Results: Success rate of varicose veins was 98.3%(P=0.000). In this study the efficacy of laser have been decreased with increase the follow up duration but was not significant. Rate of paresthesia was 40.9%, then bruising, ecchymosis and induration with rate of 50%, 38%, 17.2% respectively.
Conclusion: This study supported effectiveness and safety of endovenous laser ablation in treatment of varicose vein.
