Oral cancer is the sixth most common malignant neoplasm and one of the top ten
causes of death worldwide. Dentists’ lack of knowledge about the signs and symptoms of oral
cancer is an important for diagnosing the oral cancer accurately and at early stages. In this study,
we examined the level of dentists’ awareness toward oral cancer in Ilam, Iran.
Materials and methods: A total of 98 dentists (65 males and 33 females) with average age of
35.57±7.9 years were invited to take part in the study and respond to suitably designed
questionnaires. Data were collected and a possible relationship between age and knowledge score
was further analyzed.
Results: The maximum awareness score that respondents could attain was 13. The mean score
was 8.14 ± 1.8, which was higher than the national average level. The average scores for men and
women were 7.58 ± 2.1 and 8.46 ± 1.5, respectively. But, this difference was not statistically
significant (P = 0.1).There was no statistically significant relationship between age and knowledge
score (P = 0.3, r = -0.11).In addition, knowledge score in different age groups were compared, and
there was no significant difference (P = 0.5).
Conclusion: Results of this study indicated that dentists’ awareness about oral cancer is higher
than average in Ilam; however, the need for educational programs for increasing the level of
knowledge about oral cancer is recommended.

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin neoplasm
and the most common type of cancer. Since the incidence of injury is taken
into consideration in the pathologic diagnosis, the study of clinical and microscopic
views of BCC is of particular importance. The present study aimed at determining
the frequency of clinical and microscopic views of BCC in a 10-year period in Ilam
province.
Materials and methods: This study is descriptive. The study population consisted
of all the subjects with BCC in the head and neck area referring to the pathology department
of Imam Khomeini hospital in Ilam province in a 10-year period. The data
were entered into SPSS 19 software and were analyzed using descriptive statistical
methods and Chi-Square test.
Results: In the present study, 205 patients were diagnosed with BCC. The maximum
and minimum frequency rates of the lesion were detected in the frontal area (9.23%)
and neck (8.7%), respectively. The maximum frequency was related to the nodular
type (57.1%), while the pigmented variant showed the lowest rate (8.3%). Among the
evaluated microscopic variants, maximum views were related to the solid-cystic type
(57.1%), while minimum views were related to the pigmented variant (37.3%). There
was no significant correlation between the location of the lesion in males and females
(p=0.14) or between the location of the lesion and age (p=0.16).
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the nodular type was the most common
clinical variant of BCC, while the least common type was the pigmented variant.
The most common histological type was the solid-cystic type, while the pigmented
variant was the least common type.

The term "head and neck cancer" refers to a variety of tumors that appear in the throat, larynx, nose, sinuses, and mouth. Cancer that occurs in the mouth can also be considered a type of head and neck cancer. Approximately 52,000 people are diagnosed with head and neck cancer each year. Men are twice as likely as women to get this cancer. About 11,000 people die from the disease each year. Unfortunately, the number of people with this type of cancer has increased in the last 20 years. There are several types of head and neck cancer that are grouped according to the part of the body where the cancer begins. Because the causes of this cancer as well as its diagnosis and treatment can vary depending on the type, the complete information of each type of cancer is presented separately. Malignant tumors of the head and neck may be of epithelial or mesenchymal origin. Types of malignant tumors of the skin and salivary glands in the epithelial group and malignant tumors of muscle, fat, bone, and vascular origin are divided into mesenchymal tumors. Like many types. Cancer, the risk of head and neck cancer may also increase with some behaviors as well as environmental factors, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, radiation therapy exposure. Especially in the head or neck area.
Osteoporosis is a silent epidemic of the present age. Numerous studies in Iran have reported the prevalence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women in the range of 8-77%, but there is no general estimate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of osteoporosis in Iranian postmenopausal women by meta-analysis. Methods: In this study, search using valid Persian and English keywords in domestic and foreign databases including: IranMedex, SID, Magiran, IranDoc, Medlib, ScienceDirect, Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane, Embase, Web of Science, Medline and Google search engine. Scholar was performed using the keywords osteoporosis, menopause and Iran in both Persian and English and without time limit until 1396. Heterogeneity of studies was assessed using the I2 index. Data were analyzed using STATA software version 11.1.

I-Speech/Language/Communication

II- Sociability

III- Sensory/ Cognitive Awareness

K.L. REICHELT و A.-M.

SMD=

Language

sociability

in the elderly. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Orem’s self-care program on the adherence
to treatment among the elderly with type II diabetes.
Method: This study was a quasi-experimental intervention with control group which was done on 66
patients with type II diabetes. Data collection tools was a four-section questionnaire including demographic
information, examining self-care activities, examining adherence to treatment and in the fourth section
examining and recognizing Orem. Before the pretest administration, the educational intervention was
done for the experiment group and one week and one month after the intervention, the questionnaire was
completed by two groups. In this study data were analyzed using SPSS v.20.
Findings: the effect of intervention program was significant at the level of 5%. There was a significant
difference between the average score of pretest adherence to treatment among the elderly one week and one
month after the intervention (p=000). The comparison of mean scores showed that the score of adherence to
treatment is significantly better in one month after the intervention compared to one week after, and better
in one-week after compared to the pretest (p=000).
Conclusion: the present study shows that nurses can employ Orem’s self-care program and play an important
role in the adherence of patients with type II diabetes to their treatment.

Futile care of patients with less than five percent chance of survival places nurses in moral distress conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between perception of futile care and moral distress in nurses in critical care units
Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was performed on 155 nurses in educational hospitals affiliated to Ilam University of Medical Sciences in 2018. This article is adapted from the thesis of the Master's Degree in Nursing, which was approved by the ethics committee of Ilam University of Medical Sciences with ethics code "ir.medilam.rec.1397.68". Data gathering tools were moral distress (MDS-R) and perception of futile care questionnaires. Data were analyzed by linear regression, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, one way ANOVA and independent t-test by SPSS23 software and p=0.05.
Results: In majority of the nurses, the levels of Perception of futile care was high (77.8%) and moral distress was moderate (0.54%). Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed a significant relationship between moral distress and perception of frequency of futile care
(r =0.407, p<0.01) as well as perception of intensity of futile care (r =0.381, p<0.01). Increasing perception of futile care increased moral distress in the nurses (p< 0.05). Linear regression indicated a significant relationship between moral distress and perception of frequency of futile care (ẞ =0.263, p=0.034) as well as past clinical experience in critical care units (ẞ =0.209, p=0.023).
Conclusion: Levels of perception of futile care was high and moral distress was moderate in the nurses. There was direct and significant relationship between moral distress and perception of futile care. Educating professional ethics and taking palliative care can drive nursing from futile to effective care

Context: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinopathy with unknown pathophysiology in women of reproductive age. Several studies have been conducted to find the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) in PCOS patients but the results are different. This study conducted to find the prevalence of MetS in PCOS patients using related published data.
Method: Current systematic review and meta-analysis study conducted based on preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Search conducted using MeSH keywords of metabolic syndrome, Polycystic ovary syndrome, prevalence in databases of PubMed, Scopus, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EBSCO and Google scholar search engine and the reference list of the retrieved papers without time limitation until 2018. We used Cochran’s Q test and I2 Index to evaluate heterogeneity among studies and random model effect use to combine the results. Data analysis was performed in Stat ver 11.1.
Results: 46 studies involving 8946 patients with PCOS included the final analysis. Total heterogeneity in the current study was high (I2: 91.43%, P < 0.001). The Prevalence of MetS in PCOS patients was estimated to be 30% (95% CI: 27-33). Subgroup of analysis based on MetS diagnostic criteria resulted in estimated prevalence of 0.27% (95% CI: 0.18, 0.37), 0.30% (95% CI: 0.27, 0.34), 0.32 (95% CI: 0.25, 0.39), 0.32 (95% CI: 0.27, 0.37) and 0.24 (95% CI: 0.14, 0.34) for IDF, NECP-ATPIII, AHA NHLBI, CDS and unknown criteria respectively.
Conclusion: According to prevalence of MetS in PCOS patients, diagnosis of MetS in patients with PCOS to reduce the rate of mortality and morbidity is needed.
