Field and Purpose: what is posed as sources of contamination of dental unit water has become more important because of the incidence of serious infections among people with weakened immune systems. Therefore, regarding the importance of this matter, this study is aimed at measuring HPC in order to ensure healthy water in dental units in Ilam town.
Analysis method: in this descriptive study, 20 healthy dental units of public and private offices in Ilam town were chosen in order to study amount of bacterial contamination (HPC) of water systems. The water sample is taken from four parts. 1. Climate exposed 2-Tourbin 3- Unit drinking water 4-Water inlet valve.  Then data are analyzed with statistical SPSS and Excel software.
Findings: among 180 samples mean and standard deviation are 26.50 and 372.50(cfu /ml) respectively. 66.1% of samples are consistent with ADA (200 Cfu /ml) in terms of counting HPC. In ANOVA analysis there is no significant difference among means (p=0.058). Also in significant level of 95% among taken samples, contamination of water in turbine was more than contamination of  exposed water  and unit drinking water and this contamination is statistically significant (p<0/05).
Conclusion: informing dentists about probability of contamination of unit water and its probable dangers and necessity of using ADA advices like putting filter, using antiseptic materials in water pipes of units in regulate and alternative pseudo and flashing.
