Abstract: (1509 Views)
A close correlation existed between asymptomatic oropharyngeal colonization of bacterial pathogens and a range of pediatric respiratory disease, also, if this pathogens contain the iron and virulence genes, person to person transmission and subsequent disease of this asymptomatic colonization, Known as a potential risk in children. Thus, in this study we evaluated the frequency of asymptomatic carriers of Neisseria meningitides and Moraxella catarrhalis in healthy childrenIn this study we assess the frequency of Neisseria meningitides and Moraxella catarrhalis in oropharynx of 123 children from 2 to 6 years old in kindergartens of Ilam province, iran, by specific methods including culture and phenotypic diagnosis as well as PCR and Real-time PCR; also iron and virulence genes was evaluated in this bacteria using the PCR method. Finally, statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the colonization of both bacteria in children and the relationship between variables that affecting the frequency of these bacteria. The majority of obtainedbacteria isolated in this study were positive for the presence of virulence and iron genes, given that the presence of these genes for survival of these bacteria in the body is essential; children, who are carriers of these bacteria, were more at risk to develop respiratory diseases by pathogenic bacteria. Finally, due to the study of the relationship between variables and the prevalence of these bacteria appears that most children, who have asymptomatic carriage with Neisseria meningitidis, were present in large families with low economic status, which reflects the importance of the environment and socio-economic level of families in the development of these potentially pathogenic bacteria in the oropharynx of children. So, when these children are placed in high-density locations such as daycare centers, than other children, are more susceptible to asymptomatic colonization of respiratory pathogens and then in the long term may be at risk for respiratory disease.
