Multiple sclerosis is known as a chronic inflammatory disease and by involving the myelin sheath of nerve fibers leads to motor and sensory disabilities and can eventually lead to death. The prevalence of multiple sclerosis, as a groundbreaking disease of the affected person and costly for the individual and society, is increasing rapidly. The complex pathology of this disease includes the secretion of inflammatory factors and eventually the activation of astrocytes and microglia, the death of oligodendrocytes and the destruction of myelin. Treatment is usually based on the use of immunosuppressive agents and reducing inflammation of the nervous system. In this study, we try to prevent the onset of the inflammatory process and thus the progression of the disease by removing aquapurin 4 proteins, whose expression is abnormally increased on the membrane of activated astrocytes. This type of protein, which forms water channels in the membrane, plays an important role in water homeostasis, maintaining the ionic balance of the neural microenvironment, and causing edema in the tissue.
