Abstract: (2158 Views)
Objective: spinal cord injury (SCI)is one of the most serious clinical diseases
that not only affects the patient physically and psychologically, but also its effects
influence on family andsociety. In SCI ,glial cells that their most abundant
areastrocytes, convert in to the reactive astrocytes which are the main components
of glial scars. In glial scar, the extracellular matrix increases, that mainly secreted
by reactive astrocytes.Amongthecomponents, ChondroitinSulfate proteoglycans
play an important role ininhibiting of axonal regeneration.
After SCI, dermatansulfate and chondroitin sulfateincrease. For treating the
impotence (disability) caused by SCI,there is used cell therapy to greatly limitthe
formation of glial scar and to provide thegrowth of axons, but in these
studies, improvement is limited due to the lack of knowledge about the right time
for the rapeutic intervention. Therefore, the aim of this study is todetermine the
start time for formation of glial scar in contusion model of spinal cord injury to
achieve effective timeof therapeutic intervention for reducing inhibitory effect of
glial scar as the most basic physical barrier to axonal regeneration.
