The term "head and neck cancer" refers to a variety of tumors that appear in the throat, larynx, nose, sinuses, and mouth. Cancer that occurs in the mouth can also be considered a type of head and neck cancer. Approximately 52,000 people are diagnosed with head and neck cancer each year. Men are twice as likely as women to get this cancer. About 11,000 people die from the disease each year. Unfortunately, the number of people with this type of cancer has increased in the last 20 years. There are several types of head and neck cancer that are grouped according to the part of the body where the cancer begins. Because the causes of this cancer as well as its diagnosis and treatment can vary depending on the type, the complete information of each type of cancer is presented separately. Malignant tumors of the head and neck may be of epithelial or mesenchymal origin. Types of malignant tumors of the skin and salivary glands in the epithelial group and malignant tumors of muscle, fat, bone, and vascular origin are divided into mesenchymal tumors. Like many types. Cancer, the risk of head and neck cancer may also increase with some behaviors as well as environmental factors, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, radiation therapy exposure. Especially in the head or neck area.
